How to Choose a Theme for Your Engagement Photos

You’re engaged - Congratulations is in store! But now what?

Almost as soon as the ring is on your finger the celebrating stops and the planning begins. There will be so many little details to take care of, but one of the first things to think about will be your engagement photos.

Choosing an Engagement Photo Theme That Suits You

One of the first steps is to find a photographer you and your fiancé connect with. Finding a photographer you are both not only comfortable with but shares a similar vision and outlook is key to getting engagement photographs you will both love for years to come.

The second step is would be to consider if you will want more formal studio portraits, or if you are looking for something more relaxed and possibly shot outdoors. Both options can be customized to suit your tastes. You will want to consider the time of year and your location where the engagement photos will be taken, then discuss with your photographer. They are a great resource for location ideas!

Once you have found a photographer and picked a location for your engagement photo shoot, you will want to think about what kind of couple you are. Do you like to get dressed up to go out? Do you have more traditional or classic tastes? You might want to consider posed studio shots or possibly schedule a session in your own home. Or maybe that’s not your style. Are you and your fiancé more offbeat? Maybe you enjoy hiking, camping, and the great outdoors. Consider having your photos taken in your favorite spot. Somewhere that has special meaning for you as a couple. Maybe you are one of the couples who game together, stay together set. Attending Comic Conventions, Renaissance Faires, and weekend LARP sessions are more your speed. Consider doing a costumed engagement shoot!

Engagement photos are, at their essence, a way to celebrate who you are as a couple as you take this next step in your lives. To that end, they should be a fun way to help announce that you said yes (with more details to come).
