What to do in Munich Germany?
This weekend for the first time I jumped on a train and went where ever it was going! well really I bought a Bavarian ticket for the two of us and headed for Munich, but thats what it felt like. The transportation system here is marvelous once you figure out how to read the signs in german, almost get on the wrong train, and miss the first two departing trains. Otherwise its great!
We loaded on at the main train station in Nuremberg (pictured above), got lost, then made our way underground and got on our way, and 2 hours later arrived in Munich.
5 minute walk out of the Munich station and you have arrived in the heart of the city. We stumbled through the Karls Gate (Karlstor) and found an old friend from High School (how small the world is scares me sometimes), one (of many we would run into along the way) drunk bride to be, beautiful statues, and all sorts of oddities.
If our stomachs were not eatting at us from the inside out, I know we would have stayed to listen to the FREE english tour that we caught as it just started, but I was getting delusional so we moved on. The Sandeman's tour was VERY informative, and I wish we could have stayed for the 3 HOUR tour, but it is a definate next time! They met right outside the large tower in Marienplazt (pictured below) and the tour guides are all volunteers who are paid by TIPS ONLY! so if you liked them make sure to pay up :)
I was looking for a jewish museum but my mapping skills failed me and took us to a very large building, which to my surprise was a museum, just not the one I thought. The Deutsche Museum is a MASSIVE building and TOTALLY worth the small entrance fee of 8€. We arrived at 4pm, and they closed at 5pm so we got to go in for free, and boy was that not enough. I am pretty sure we saw 1/8th of the museum and we didnt stop to see what the signs said. We ran through like liddle kids in a toy shop, ooo-ing and aww-ing at the pretty shiny objects! I NEED to come back here and spend 6 hours or more to take in all of the glorious objects found here. Just a few items I found are pictured below.
After a long day we headed home, but that is not the last you will see of Munich, We still have so much to see, just so little time!
